BABY MESSAGE...

Hello Folks,

Many of you may already know the benefits of baby massage. I'm seeing a lot of young moms who live a distance away from their moms or granma's house. When I was pregnant with my first baby and after the birth, I was blessed to have my mom and granma with me. Well,some of the lessons I learned from them I'd like to share with you.

It amazes me, that in this high technique world that some new most don't know the benefit of touch between mama, papa and baby. A video will follow this, but for right now, I'd like to talk about you as a parent.

You know if you are pregnant your parenting has already begun. Your child within is totally dependent on you. What you eat, drink, even what you say and how you say it affects your baby. Yea, they hear you. Your bonding with your baby begins now. Talk, sing, pray and laugh with your baby. By the time you deliver, they know your voice.

Dad, you're not exempt from this either. Your baby can even feel the differences in vibrations between mama rubbing the tummy and the heavier hand of dad. Massage and converse.

Babies sleep alot, but they are also taking in; EVERYTHING they hear and see you doing. Know it or not you are now officially teachers. So What's your game plan?
What is it that's important to you that you want to pass down to your child, continueing on through each generation - legacies. You create them.

Laughing;
Crying;
Sense of self;
Manners were really important in our family;
Respect for elders;
Cleanliness;
Relationship; and
Religion - Not neccisarrily in that order, but I hope you get my drift. Pregnancy isn't just about housing a baby for nine months, letting it sleep for another month, and then just playing games.

Shocker, you actually have about three-four years to instill the beginnings of life-long habits. Look around you when you go a grocery store, or to the mall. Watch Maury Povich about the kids 6-12 who beat, cuss-out, and disrespect their parents. That didn't happen overnight. Parenting is serious business.

Parenting is also one of the most rewarding life-long jobs you will ever have the privilege of being involved in. It will be what you make it. There will be challenges along the way as boundaries are tried. There will be dissapointments on both sides of the parental/child relationship. But it all starts before birth. so get your books together for story time, your CD's for music, set the stage for good times.

Father, I pray for this family who is beginning a wonderful journey. A journey of family that you created. This man and woman coming together in love to love, nurture, teach, and protect this brand new life. We pray blessings on all of them. In Jesus Name, Amen

THESE KIDS NOWADAYS...

BILL COSBY WROTE AN ARTICLE AND APPEARED ON OPRAH several months ago, criticizing the youth of today for their skill of speaking - or lack of it.

Bill Cosby

'They're standing on the corner and they can't speak English.
I can't even talk the way these people talk: Why you ain't, Where you is,
What he drive, Where he stay, Where he work,
Who you be... And I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk.
And then I heard the father talk.

WHAT IS YOUR OPINION?

I'll put my little piece in here too.

I think he is right to criticize their speech, he's right to criticize the parents.

One thing I have noticesd these past seven years of working with teens, is that White kids, Mexican and Black kids seem to be slipping in knowing the propers of the English language. We as Black families, and all the others too, are the only ones who can fix it. It's never too late to start. If you know better, do better.

Most of us here have grands. How do we allow them to speak. Slang isn't allowed in our homes unless we are playing, and all of them know when to stop. For serious conversations, proper English is it. The written word is respected. It's up to us, as parents and grandparents, to teach them how to write to the best of our ability, and not to accept less than what they can do.

As families we are mighty. We have the power to redline a teachers approval on papers that do not meet the standard grade (I did), and sent it back to school with instructions to get it right. Needless to say, I was not a favorite parent to some. Will we damage their self-esteem, maybe for a minute - but in the long run they will know what's right and what is expected at home and in public. I am not as literate as some of my children, but all of them know respect; for themselves and others. By keeping quiet in our schools when children are not being taught is something we will all have to answer for. If we do not teach those around us; family, extended family, children in our churches, and those kids who just stop by to sit on the porch, I believe that is the ultimate form of failure and disrespect.

Families are the source of learning, we set boundaries on our kids for reasons of protection and furthering their education and life experiences. We grow them to appreciate all people and not look down, but to bring up in any way they can. If they don't learn it at home, where, when?

Okay, that's my lil' bit - peace out, holla atcha lata!! Jay

My COUNTRY TIS' OF THEE...

I was sitting at my computer reading the messages on EONS on several different political sites, and the song 'My Country Tis' Of Thee' kept running through my head. What exactly does this song mean to me.

My country tis of thee

This is my country. All of my known family was born here. With all of it's problems, injustices this country The United States of America is my country. I know of no other, nor do I want to live in another – well maybe Jamaica for a season or two, then come HOME.

Sweet land of liberty

Yes, it is a country of liberty. When and if anyone reading this finds a PERFECT country, please let me know. As I read the blogs and some of our political statements, just on this site; in some countries we'd be tried for treason. But we have the right to speak. LIBERTY, that a Black man who meets all of the qualifications for President of the United States (and he's not rich). In no other country that I know of can a man with the background of Barack Obama run for the highest office in the Country. Do you realize that means that if any of our children so chose (Lord, let it not be) they can run too. (Only because my child would be damned if they do or damned if they don't - I'd settle for a doctor)

Of thee I sing

Of the United Sates of America I sing her praises. Yes we are a liberal country. Liberal enough the I can serve God openly, I can sleep without threat of the government kicking in my door because I wrote a critical post about them. Conservative we are, that our laws and values are, at least, stated if not always upheld. Bi-partisan enough that when a disaster streikes this country we are all affected (at least for a time). I think all countrymen must come together every now and then. Yes I sing strongly the Battle Hymn of the Republic, This is My Country, and America the Beautiful.

Land where my fathers died

My dad served in WWII, the Korean War, and three tours in Viet Nam. He served thirty years defending this country and what it stands for. All of my sons except two have entered the Armed Forces, and many uncles and cousins chose to serve this country. They didn't wait for the draft or have their time deferred and some do; though they could have. Before my dad and grandfather, his dad, and his dad before died after living through slavery. But they were proud, and taught their sons and daughters to be proud in this country.

Land of the pilgrims pride

I really don't know, can't speak for them. But I imagine since they were escaping the servitude and loss of freedom of religion in England, they must have taken much pride in getting here too. It is really too bad that the greed for territory made for a bad situation, that the Native Americans who were here already had to be put down, enslaved and die, and land that was rightfully theirs was taken by force. Maybe after all these years we can come together and all take pride in this America we all share.

FROM EVERY MOUNTAIN SIDE, LET FREEDOM RING

Our fathers' God to thee,
author of liberty, to Thee we sing
long may our land be bright,
with freedom's holy light
protect us by Thy might, Great God, our King

This last verse is seldom heard, much less sung. But I believe as we live out this last verse, only then will we be truly able to capture the whole and wonderful essence of this song.

WHEN DISASTER CALLS...

Earthquakes, cyclones, tornadoes and floods; so much devastation. As I watch the news I cry. The tears come whether it's from China, Myanmar, Georgia or Maryland.
How can we not but pray as we see the hurt of our brothers and sisters all over the world. Like it or not, agree or not with differences of belief's, various hues of color, whether they serve my God or yours; these are people who hurt.

I cannot believe that a government is so wicked that they either will not let, or limit incoming help to their own people. We in America are so blessed, that help is available. No, I haven't forgotten Katrina. And that a Katrina can happen her should be enough to open our eyes as to what our government has come to.

It does not take an Einstein to see that we need change. Not all politicians are bad, they are folks like you and me. It is our responsibility to break the mold that has made a Katrina possible, it is our responsibility to change the politics so that another unnecessary does not happen again. We don't need rogue leaders. We do need leaders who can work together for the people.
I don't think America will be exempt from horrible natural disasters. But I do believe it's important that our hearts be prepared to help each other before disaster strikes.

All the division we have, its so sad. One Nation Under God – Indivisible (together, mended as one).... I am A Negative Blood. I wonder who is out there that is the same, and what color do you have on top of the vessels? Do our differences matter when we need this life saving gift? If not, why should we be so separated?
